Range maintentance has been slow to none for the past couple of months. Today Bill Stripln and Johnny Cole power washed the river restroom. Soon the outside will be painted.
The rain has slowed down this week we have 4 x 4 posts up on the next three bays.
Waiting on more days without rain forcast. The next couple of weeks we will be improving the roads at the river range with large slag from Mac Steel.

The Alma range work is very slow too. Any day now, we are going to be digging the footing for the restrooms. Then come the block work. Soon we will have a new restroom we all will be proud of. Also road work and creek work will begain soon at the Range.

At the last Club meeting over 25 new members joined the Club.

Remember FNRA Banquet and Women on Target program coming soon.

February 4, 2010
At the Club meeting several new members joined. FNRA Banquet will be March 20, 2010. Range too wet at the present time to do any range improvements right now.
Concrete Pads for Bays 5 and 6 is done. We now have 9 pistol bays that has cover with sitting and shooting benches.
The Board did approve bids to pour pads on new newest bays when it dries up and pour the pad for the Alma restroom. The person that said he will do the blocks has not return any calls from us. So we do not know for sure if he will be doing it or not, but we are still going to get it done.
Membership is at about 700 right now, still renewal are coming slowly. Locks at both ranges has been changed. Must be a current member to have a lock number to get in. If you have not renewed do it now. Before you get to the range. Or you will go home.
Shooting matches will beginning this month. There are many shooting bays that members can use.

January 7, 2010
At the Club meeting several new members joined. No new business was discuss. Old business more range improvements have been done and more to come. After the Club meeting the Board of Directors had a short meeting to discuss the Alma Restroom. Johnny Cole reported that he has received couple of bids and thought both bids were too high for what we wanted. Bill Striplin received a call from a club members and told him that he would build the restroom for us. The club would have to purchase all supplies he needed and give him some help as needed. The Board did not have a problem with this and voted to approve the work to start as soon as the weather improves. Also the Board approved concrete bid for two pads for Bays 5 and 6. This will give members 9 bays with covers. We will build the other four covers later and expand the 100 yard range cover.

First picture of the new berm. It not finish yet.

November 5

After the Club meeting the BOD had meeting to discuss more projects and bids. They approved a new berm on the right side of the 100 yard Rifle range. This was a must because the new walk in Ft Chaffee hunting area. Couple of other bids was approve was raising the north berm of the 300 yard range. This is also the back berm of the new pistol bays. They noticed that the berm was little low in a few spots and also needed to be higher for safety reason. While working in the same area they also approved adding 3 more longer pistol bay on that berm. Theses will be about 50 yards wide and about twice as deep as the new bays. Money was also approved for building the covers and concrete pads.

This will give more members a place to shoot during the week and on weekend while matches are taken place in the old shooting bays.

We are still are looking for contractors for the Alma range restroom. BOD's did receive one bid but they thought it was too high. So they are still looking.

What is Steel Challenge?
It's a new thrill of handgun competition. Designed for the whole family, Steel Challenge combines plinking with the challenge of competition. A stage consists of five steel targets, round or rectangle, at different distances. At the start signal, hit each target one time. Shoot the same course 5 times, and the longest time is not counted. Total time determines the winners of the match. A match will consist of 5 or 6 stages. Best of all, Steel Challenge has a place for .22 rim fire handguns. Start position for .22 is "low ready," so a holster and magazine carriers are not needed. Reloads during the course of fire are not required. Extra magazines help the match go a little faster. Center fire handguns, 9mm and larger, start from a holstered position. This is a sport that everyone can enjoy.

Rules for the game can be found on the OFGC web site.
More information will be sent out as the time to start this exciting new game approaches.

When will it start?
Steel Challenge matches are scheduled to start the first Saturday of April, beginning at 1:00 pm.

Cost of the match?
The first couple of months will be at no charge. Shooting fee will be $10 per shooter, the BOD's have not discarded the youth fees.

Also the Board approved purchasing two new Promatic throwers for Sporting Clays. Other range improvement was discuss. The BOD's will be reviewing the surveys that has be returned.

December 4, 2008

The membership voted not to raise the 2009 Range Maintenance fees by 2 to 1.
After the Club meeting the Board of Directors voted also not to raise the fee due to membership vote. The 2009 renewal forms will be in the mail out soon and a Range survey, please mail both back soon as possible.

Also was discuss due to high usage of Pistol bays members need to share the bays with other members. We are looking at building more, and where to build them but it will take time.

We have installed new locks at the Range gates. If you cannot lock the gate first spin the numbers then try again. That should work.
